Overseas bookings for August become a torrent following wettest July on record

This was supposed to be the year that the new fashion was created in the UK called the staycationer who, instead of travelling abroad would either stay at home or only journey a relatively short distance for accommodation, and visit local places. This was all done due to the economic climate..

For many years the British have underpinned tourism in most European destinations however, the amount travelling abroad for 2008 fell by 9% and by 21% in the first quarter of 2009. Travel agents had already made allowances for this downturn but the decline seen in the first quarter was more than anticipated with the British deciding to stay in the UK. This was thought to be the year where the British would spend it in the UK and break the trend to go abroad as a must.

One thing, which is predictable about the English weather, is its unrealiability and all the sounds about what a excellent summer we could expect is already in ruins. The summer has been nothing short of a disaster with rain and more rain making this one of the worst summers on record. Campsites have been turned into lakes with flooding widespread in the south and southwest. Whilst temperatures have been decent there is little fun being sat on the beach underneath a steady drizzle or an almighty downpour.

The weather has certainly put paid to the Staycationers who have returned to type with demand for holidays abroad picking up as holidaymakers look to guarantee a sunshine holiday. In light of the poor start to the year the price of holidays abroad are still relatively cheap and if you are looking for a cheap holiday be sure to book your Gatwick airport parking, Heathrow hotel parking and parking at Manchester airport as early as possible to secure the widest choice of car parks and hotels.
